Blaze by Suzanne Wright

BLAZE By Suzanne Wright

I was "patiently" awaiting this release. I loved the first book in the series, and the 2nd book did not disappoint. I highly recommend reading the first book Burn, as it will give you the back ground as to Harper and Knox. This is a paranormal read, and not your average shifter story. This series deals with demons, and they don't really play the villains. They are not good but they have their own set of rules and rulers that they follow.

In Blaze we continue with Harper and Knox, it picks up a couple of months where the Burn leaves off. In Blaze Harper's mom is kidnapped by a "rouge demon", as Knox tries to find Harper's mom - new developments come up. We learn about the 4 Horsemen and what kind of role they play in all the troubles that the demons are experiencing. Harper and Knox engage in their first fight. I must say - my heart stopped during their fight. I was not sure what was going to happen, which as a reader I love to experience the unexpected from the author.

Of course much like Burn, Blaze has a bunch of wonderful and hysterical scenes, specially Harper being Harper! I love her form of getting even, what she did to Belinda at the "shindig" was hysterical. Oh and Knox is just cut and dry! He as well as his demon do not care for anyone insulting or hurting Harper, that scene at the shindig with Alethea. It was so embarrassing for the "dolphin"(Alethea). But I really did enjoy how Knox put her in her place.

My favorite quote has to be... "I can be so totally terrifying that I scare even me. Why are you laughing? I'm serious, it's true. You just don't think so because you've never actually seen me that way. If you did, you'd freak out. Really, you would. I'm telling you, fully grown men have run the other way rather than face my when I'm in Berserker mode and - stop laughing!" lol

I really hope we will get to see something happen between Devon and Tanner, who says cats and dogs can't get together!!! The banter between the two of them, has to lead somewhere...please please please!!!!!

I give this 5 stars, there is action, romance, comedy..it has a little bit of everything.

"Behind the Pitch" is a novella set in the "Chasing Serenity" universe and is told in Declan Fraser's point of view. The release date is set tentatively for December/January.

Synopsis:
Expat Irish rugby player Declan Fraser only wanted to play the sport he loves. He didn’t want to be stuck in this middle-of-nowhere town at this all too quaint university. He didn’t want his team captain to be an entitled jackass who switched Declan's position on the squad just to make himself look good. And he sure as hell didn’t want to fall in love with graduate student Autumn McShane.
Autumn is stubborn, but gorgeous; she bristles at any hint of dependency on anyone or anything, but she’s also a survivor. She’s everything Declan didn’t know he wanted. When Autumn finds herself in the middle of a challenging bet with her ex-boyfriend - who just happens to be the arrogant team captain that Declan hates - he feels honor bound to help her out. But he didn’t expect to fall for her in the process.
“Behind the Pitch” reveals the most twisted and erotic thoughts in Declan’s head as he navigates through his on again/off again, frustrating and deeply erotic relationship with Autumn McShane.
And lordy, does he have a filthy mind.

EXCERPT

She will be the death of me.
McShane with her long, ginger hair that smelled like cotton candy one day and some weird flowery scent I can’t place the next.
McShane who kissed me back like she meant it, like she wanted more of me that day in the basement.
McShane who walked away hacked off when Morrison and I started throwing fists at each other after the match, when he got a bit too caveman for my liking. Pouncy bollocks. He deserved it. Telling me that McShane was his, that I needed to stay away from her.
And now, fecking now, she was blowing me off at this loud, obnoxious club.
I didn’t know what she was fussed about. Really, she should have thanked me. I was only looking after her. But try convincing that stubborn woman of anything.
“I haven’t needed a man since my dad skipped out on us,” she said. “And I got over the domineering caveman shit after Tucker. Now it only pisses me off.”
As though I needed telling. I saw who she is, how she is. I saw that she’s strong, that she’s capable. But fuck me if I couldn’t seem to quell the need to look after her anyway, to protect her. What was it about this girl? Why couldn’t I stay away?
And why the hell did she have to look so damn gorgeous?
I watched her dancing with her friends across the club. She kept downing drinks, Scotch of all things, as though it was water. Her hips moving in that tight dress called to me, had my eyes swaying from her face and lingering there far longer than seemed decent.
But to hell with her if she thought I’d chase after her. I did have some pride, you see.
She moved to the beat, swaying here and there, against her pissed friends, hammered to shite. They danced together with liquid ease, their bodies touching, bouncing, grazing against each other and it was all I could do to keep from running across the club and pulling McShane to me; to have her nestled against my chest, her hot breath moistening my neck.
Shite.

MY REVIEW

First things first, you need to read Chasing Serenity first in order to understand Behind the Pitch. This is a novella and is seen from Delcan's POV. Can I just say that Ms. Butler did an amazing job. Even though it is a novella the book did not leave me feeling like something was missing. It also doesn't feel like you are reading the same story but rather missing pieces. So it does feel different. Declan really needs to explain things to Serenity, but you will see!

You must read this book! It was a great read from a males POV.

Author Bio:
Eden Butler is an editor and writer of New Adult Romance and SciFi and Fantasy novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum. Her debut novel, a New Adult, Contemporary (no cliffie) Romance, “Chasing Serenity” will launch October 2013.

When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, thinking up impossible plots, Eden edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.
